Most people who are trying to lose weight look for a way to increase the efficiency of the fat burning process at some stage of the weight loss process. Of course, there is no magic product or miracle diet, but there are certain compounds that can help us on the way to our dream figure. These compounds are thermogenic.
Before we get to know the subject of thermogenic substances, we need to explain a related term, namely thermogenesis.
What is thermogenesis?
Thermogenesis is a physiological process occurring in our body, which involves the release of heat in order to maintain a constant body temperature (this is a characteristic feature of warm-blooded animals, including, of course, people).
Postprandial thermogenesis is an increase in heat production after consuming food. It is estimated that food-induced thermogenesis accounts for an average of 6-10% of the body’s daily energy expenditure. The process of generating heat is associated with increased energy consumption, which is obtained by the body from stored fat tissue. Protein has the greatest thermogenic effect.
Increased thermogenesis = more efficient fat burning
Now that we know the concept of thermogenesis, we can explain what the previously mentionedthermogenic substances are, often called “fat burners”. These are substances that increase the metabolic rate by increasing body temperature, which, as mentioned earlier, stimulates fat metabolism.
Thermogenic substances can be divided into natural and synthetic ones, the former are of course more beneficial to health and we want to focus on them.
