In today’s post, we present the case of our patient (male, 50 years old), who struggled with chronic inflammation of the skin on his hands. Various treatment attempts were made, antibiotics, steroid ointments, but the skin problem kept coming back. We managed it thanks to a combination of therapies – diet, supplementation, hydrogen-oxygen inhalations. What the patient reports: skin problems for over 3 years (cracking skin on the hands to the point of bleeding, dry and rough skin), unsuccessful attempts at treatment by dermatologists, sleep problems (disturbed circadian rhythm), slight feelings of bloating (especially after consuming cow’s milk), periodic joint pain, apnea, snoring at night
What the BETA study showed:
- Intestinal dysbiosis – excess putrefactive, fermentative flora at the intestinal level
- decreased secretion of hydrochloric acid at the stomach level, and thus a decrease in protein maceration (meat, fish, eggs, cheese)
- weakened adrenal glands
- raised diaphragm
- inflammatory microstates / migratory inflammation
- tendency to food hypersensitivities (unformed protein conglomerates leak into the bloodstream and intensify skin lesions)
What did the diet look like:
- first meal 11 am – 3 pm – warm sausage with mustard and wheat-rye bread or semi-soft eggs with mayonnaise and wheat-rye bread with butter or sausages with ketchup or lactose-free milk with stale wheat roll
- dinner 3 pm – 5 pm – 4 to 5 times a week meat (different types) with the addition of potatoes, various groats or rice, flour dishes 1-2 times a week (pancakes with white cheese, dumplings or pierogi, kopytka or wheat pasta with a coconut cream sauce), possibly fish with baked potatoes and warm vegetables or salad or tofu with rice and vegetables on warm
- dinner 8-11 p.m. – second dinner (smaller portion), pasta with pesto, pudding with lactose-free milk, jelly with sugar, sandwiches with butter or mayonnaise, plus homemade cold cuts or white goat cheese with tomato and onion or tomatoes with onion and yogurt (without bread) or homemade pizza or tartare
- snacks – homemade cake, crackers or breadsticks, candies, shortbread cookies (optional), ice cream
- hydration – 2 l of spring or mineral water + 5 black teas with a bit of honey
- supplementation – omega 3, ginseng, vitamin C
Recovery plan
- Nutrition – liquid/semi-liquid breakfasts until 10 (soup, gluten-free oatmeal with coconut milk and coconut oil, blueberries, cinnamon), second breakfast until 12 – sandwiches made of gluten-free bread with butter and protein (meat jelly, eggs, turkey sausages, canned or smoked fish, sheep’s cheese), lunch until 15 (5 x meat or fish with warm vegetables and salad with a small portion of carbohydrates, such as gluten-free groats or quinoa) and 2 x vegetarian dishes, dinner until 20:00 excluding sandwiches, protein products (meat, cheese, eggs, fish) – soups, potatoes or sweet potatoes, rice or buckwheat pasta, red rice, seasonal warm vegetables – always a portion of fat (butter, olive oil, coconut oil)
- Hydration increased to 2.5 l of water / isotonic drink, 2 teas per day
- Supplementation: sea buckthorn oil, zinc, vitamin C, proline, chlorella, vitamin D, coenzyme q10, betaine HCl, sulfur, zeolite
- Supporting therapies – Hydrogen-oxygen inhalations – 20 h
